Next 28 February is Andalusia’s Feast Day, where we commemorate and celebrate the singularity of our culture and idiosyncrasy. At Alcazaba Premium Hostel we have decided to pay tribute to our home region with one its most precious treasures – gastronomy. In order to do so, we have prepared some very special gastronomic days from 25 to 29 February to celebrate this occasion.
Yes, you heard right… Our hostel, right in Malaga downtown, has prepared a gastronomic event where you will be able to taste the essence of Andalusia. To this purpose, our restaurant Batik has come up with a few succulent dishes, all of them prepared with a selection of Andalusian products that are unique in quality and flavour.
In Andalusia, we have the privilege of producing a large variety of renowned quality products, so choosing only a few of them wasn’t an easy task. Since we are located in the very heart of Malaga, we have dedicated our tribute to our very own province to a large extent, covering both land and sea… A mixture of flavours made to delight the senses.
Malaga cheeses were a must. A special assortment that features cheeses regarded to be some of the best in the world, such as Payoyo, from Villanueva del Rosario, and the Gran Pinsapo semi-mature, which comes from the Sierra de las Nieves and has been awarded the silver medal in several occasions.
A very unique dish from Malaga is fried aubergines with cane honey. We have merged it in some delicious croquettes made with a type of cane honey that is unique in Europe, produced in the village of Frigiliana, home of the only cane honey factory that exists in Europe.
If you love meat, you must try the suckling goat from Malaga, one of the best breeds of goats in Spain. It is characterized by its high production of milk, which gives the meat its special flavour and texture. Our suckling goat was the first to obtain the seal of Native race granted by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food.
Being seafood such an important part of our cuisine, we have selected the delicious white shrimp of Huelva, which is captured the traditional way and, also, is eligible this year to obtain the designation of origin (D.O.) because of its high quality and exquisite flavour.
And last but not least, a peculiar fresh-water fish, the trout from Riofrío. This village from Granada is home to the first organic fish farm in the world, which produces trouts and sturgeons as well as exquisite organic caviar.
If you love Andalusia as much as we do, you won’t be able to resist the temptation. Visit our restaurant Batik and enjoy the most delicious foods in the region at the very foot of Malaga’s Alcazaba.
